Bankers Hill High-Rise Garage Flooded Overnight

Residents of a high-rise in Bankers Hill awoke to a deep pool water in their parking garage Monday. Water began flooding the underground garage at Park One Condominiums, on the corner of 6th Avenue and Upas Street, the for unknown reasons overnight. According to resident Jess Fierro, about eight cars park in the garage. It was unclear how many were there at the time of the flooding.

“It’s really amazing to see the garage flooded the way it is,” Fierro said. “It’s very upsetting to see the garage.

“He estimated the garage was filled with two to three feet of water. Water began to flow onto 6th Avenue, adjacent to Balboa Park, Monday morning.

Footage of the scene showed water streaming from a drainage pipe along the roadway. About a half-inch of water was flowing into the street. San Diego Fire-Rescue (SDFD) crews were on site at about 8 a.m. Monday working to shut off the water. It was not immediately clear where the water was coming from or what caused the leak.

Fierro said elevators lead down to the garage and were not operable Monday. He said the garage has alarm systems and possibly electrical wiring and equipment that may have been affected.
