Dog Days of Summer event with Heartland Fire & Rescue

Heartland Fire & Rescue Department will host its third annual Dog Days of Summer this weekend.

The event will provide free dog washes at El Cajon Fire Station #6 and is scheduled to take place Saturday, Aug. 5, from 9 a.m. to noon, providing family-friendly activities celebrating beloved four-legged companions.

“Participants will have the opportunity to meet Yara, California’s first Fire Station service dog, and get acquainted with the crucial role she plays in assisting firefighters,” according to organizers.

Families are invited to participate in tours of the fire station, gaining an insider’s look into the facilities and a better understanding of the work firefighters carry out to protect the community.

“This behind-the-scenes experience is an excellent chance for both children and adults to learn about fire safety and gain insight into the admirable contributions of our local heroes.”

Visitors will have access to free dog washes provided by Camp Run-a-Mutt in El Cajon.

The event encourages families to spend quality time with their pets and discover the joys of community bonding through fun activities.

“We are thrilled to host the Dog Days of Summer event at the El Cajon Fire Station,” exclaimed Fire Chief Bent Koch.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for our community to unite, learn about fire safety, meet our Fire Station service dog, and enjoy a morning of fun-filled activities with their pets. We eagerly look forward to welcoming families and their furry friends for an unforgettable morning.”

Fire Station #6 is located at 100 Lexington Ave. in El Cajon.
