Main Street lights up for the holidays

The Downtown El Cajon Business Partners is readying downtown El Cajon for its annual Holiday Lights On Main Street in the heart of downtown on Nov. 25 from 2-8 p.m. Held on Small Business Saturday, this signature event brings thousands to downtown El Cajon with venders, live entertainment, Santa’s Village, activities for the entire family, along with encouraging attendees to shop local small businesses residing downtown.

On the corner of Main Street and Magnolia Avenue, at 6 p.m., is the annual Christmas Tree Lighting, getting the city ready for the holiday season.

Downtown El Cajon Business Partners CFO Cathy Lubek said they are bringing back the ice-skating rink at the Prescott Promenade, along with carnival rides, and jump houses for the kids.

“We have lots of vendors,” she said. “Food, arts and crafts, retail sales. We have Santa’s Village where you can take selfies with your kids talking to Santa. Then at 6 p.m. at the corner of Main and Magnolia is when the Christmas tree will be lit.”

Lubek said there are two bands playing this year on the Promenade, The Audio Hounds Band from 2-4:15 p.m., and the Harmony Grove Band from 5-8 p.m.

“Rock Church has some chorus singers singing holiday songs at Main and Magnolia at the Christmas tree starting at 4:30 p.m.,” she said.
