Man shot outside Denny’s in La Mesa

LA MESA, Calif. — Police Wednesday were investigating a shooting that wounded a man in La Mesa.
Officers arrived around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday about two minutes after receiving multiple calls reporting gunshots outside Denny’s located in the 4200 block of Spring Street, a La Mesa police dispatcher said.
People inside the Denny’s said three men were chasing another man before one of them fired shots. Customers then ran outside to help, a witness said.
Emergency personnel found an 18-year-old man lying in the roadway. He appeared to have been shot twice in the abdomen, police said.  He was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital and underwent surgery for the two wounds, which were not considered life-threatening, investigators said.
The three men who were chasing the victim were described as black men between 18 and 20 years old wearing dark clothing. Witnesses said they got into an orange or red late-model Dodge Charger, which drove away southbound on Spring Street.
Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call La Mesa Police Department at 619-667-1400 or Crimestoppers at 888-580-TIPS.
