Parkway Plaza ushers in youth focused nights

Parkway Plaza is bringing back two events for children and teens beginning in February. Kids Night Out and Saved by the 90’s-Teen Night.

Kids Night out begins on Feb. 9 with crafting for kids, dancing, games, giveaways and more. Registered guests will be entered to win rotating prize packages. This event is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

With Saved by the 90s, Teen Night at Parkway Plaza beginning Feb. 23 is a free event for teens to play games, take selfies, snacks, and create new friendships. This event is from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Parkway Plaza Marketing and Business Development Manager Petra Rich said they are kicking off these yearly events as it provides something steady and convenient for the community to be able to come out, get their kids to get out for a night and give their teens an opportunity to have some fun in a safe environment.

“Kids Night Out happens on the second Friday of every month from February to October,” she said. “It happens right outside of Ulta Beauty in the food court area. We have crafts, snacks, coupons, and tons of stuff for families to come out and enjoy. We like to partner with some of our tenants in the mall such as Video Game Lounge, Smash Heaven, Dick’s Sporting Goods that provides some extra games with us, as well as Wetzel’s Pretzels which brings us great pretzel bits. We partner with a great local craft company in the community, and we have all our crafts themed for each month, so February will be a Valentine’s Day craft.”

Rich said this year, something special they are bringing in is characters and fun elements to provide more entertainment for the kids, so in February they will have the Queen of Hearts joining them for the Valentine’s Day theme, and in March will be a St. Paddy’s Day theme with a magical fairy to help.

“Kids Night Out is a free, family-friendly fun night to give parents something to do with their kids and provide an enriching activity and get those end of week wiggles out before they head into their weekend,” she said.

Rich said Teen Night is on the fourth Friday of every month in partnership with Youth Venture, held at the Youth Venture Lounge next to Hollister Co.

“We do partner with Wetzel’s Pretzels again to provide free pretzel bits, and the first 25 kids in attendance get a complementary ticket to our Regal Cinemas. The kids really love that,” she said. “This is one event where the teens can just come in and hang out, play video games, Xbox, PS5. We have a ping pong table, a pool table, and other snacks and drinks at the Youth Venture Lounge. For us, this is about creating a positive vibe for kids to give them something to do when they come hang out at the mall. It is not a secret that the mall has been a hangout spot for teens since the mall’s inception. We found a wonderful community connection with Youth Venture to provide some positive space, and a direction for the youth who are just hanging out in the center.”
